Self advocacy

Self advocacy

People with Down syndrome and their families know best what needs to change in their communities.

People with Down syndrome and their families must be supported to understand their human rights and have the power to speak up and take action.

The problem.

People with Down syndrome often have a limited voice in the decisions and changes that affect them.

Decisions are often made without consideration of their opinions and preferences, and as a result their rights are frequently violated.

What we are doing.

We empower people with Down syndrome and their families to speak up for their human rights.

The DSi staff team are working with our Network members to develop self-advocacy in their countries. We also work directly with self-advocates to advocate for their rights at important global events.
