International advocacy
International advocacy
There are a few key events in our calendar where you can expect to see the DSi network in action delivering human rights advocacy:
World Down Syndrome Day
On 21 March each year, we speak up at the United Nations about the things that are most important to the global Down syndrome community.
World Down Syndrome Congress
The World Down Syndrome Congress is a unique opportunity for members of the global Down syndrome community to meet and share knowledge, insight and experience.
Down Syndrome Awareness Month
Throughout October we support advocates and Down syndrome organisations to share their messages with the world.
Conference of States Parties
Representatives from different countries, organisations, and advocates for people with disabilities come together to talk about how to respect and protect the rights of people with disabilities.
Current projects
We are currently working on these projects:
We work with national organisations to develop self-advocacy in their countries and we support self-advocates directly to advocate for their rights at important global events.
We have teamed up with creative agency Forsman & Bodenfors (F&B) and global digital modelling agency The Diigitals to create the world’s first virtual influencer with Down syndrome.
We are training self-advocates with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, to become consultants on inclusive organisations.
We are working with our UK member, Down’s Syndrome Association (England, Wales and N.I.), and the DSi Ambassadors to explore solutions to the challenge of remote participation.
We are working with Inclusion International developing international guidelines so organisations can make their work inclusive.
